A BOY IN NEED...
Chesapeake, Virginia
The Chesapeake Noblewomen just had our second meeting, and we are off to an awesome start! We had an exciting round table discussion about several ways we can begin to raise money for Bryant Spitzer, a brave, local 12 year old. For those of you who aren’t familiar with his story, a quick review. Bryant was having severe headaches, and a CATscan revealed that he had a golf ball sized, grade one, brain tumor. He had brain surgery and three months later another CAT scan revealed that the tumor had returned and had tripled in size! Then another surgery, after which he had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, etc. Unfortunately, Bryant’s brain tumor has returned yet again and he is scheduled for a third surgery. His family has been pushed into financial bankruptcy and has already lost their home.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!
Portsmouth, Virginia
The Portsmouth NobleWomen celebrated their 1 year anniversary by throwing their first party, ‘Power in the Park.” The Portsmouth NobleWomen joined forces with the Portsmouth Police Athletic League to bring the first ever alcohol sales to Portsmouth City Park. This was in honor of the Hydro Plane Boat Races Virginia State Championship. The event included 150 mph boats, thousands of people, a corn hole tournament, great food and wine served up by Brutti’s, and Noble beer served up by NobleWomen and Noblemen. By the end of the weekend, over $4,000 was raised to give back to the local kids in the community! It was by far, a hands down PERFECT event. The weather was wonderful, and the people who came out enjoyed being a part of the solution. Much interest was raised about The Portsmouth NobleWomen and a lot of questions were asked about starting a Portsmouth Noblemen chapter.
As I look back over the first year of the NobleWomen, I can’t believe how fast and big the NobleWomen have grown. It’s been a dream come true, more so than I ever imagined it could become in just one year. It’s been a true pleasure and life changing event to have the NobleWomen develop as it has over this past year. I am so thankful for the wonderful friendships that I have formed with great Noble women in the organization and I can’t wait to see how this next year develops. Thank you to all of you who have made this year so amazing! ~ Courtney
PORTSMOUTH PUMP
The NobleWomen and The Portsmouth Police Athletic League look forward to bringing fishing lessons as the next sporting event for the kids in the community. Everyone was very excited as the funds raised from ‘Power in the Park’ will help cover the cost of the supplies needed to teach the children how to fish.
The event also benefited two other great organizations that the NobleWomen support:
The Jackie Johnson Corn Hole Tournament raised money for the Roc Solid Foundation (www.rocsolidfoundation.org), which builds play grounds for local children with cancer. This is a great organization that, for the last 7 years, has done some amazing things in the local community. The NobleWomen and The Noblemen look forward to continuing this great partnership :)
In addition, food and drinks were served up by Ida Barbour Early Learning Center. The funds raised will help the school as they develop their plans to grow. The center is about to kick off their corporate campaign to build a new school building :) 2010 is the 100th anniversary for Ida Barbour, and the NobleWomen look forward to connecting the dots to build this awesome new community center in a well deserving local community.
A HELPING HAND
Norfolk, Virginia
The Norfolk chapter held their April meeting at the Painted Lady on April 13th. The evening started off with guest speaker, Holly Christopher, Education Manager for the City of Norfolk, encouraging the ladies to participate in the 2010 Green Reader Program. The program encourages individuals to volunteer an hour of their time to read book with an environmental message to the local elementary school in Norfolk. The Green Reader Program is offered during the month of April every year in celebration of Earth Day. The remainder of the evening was spent assembling “Care Kits” for the HER Shelter. The HER Shelter is a non-profit organization with trained advocates who can assist individuals in need with information, referrals, or when appropriate, can provide safe, emergency housing for a woman and her children. During the meeting 25 women stuffed 30 bags with shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, washcloths towels, shower caps, tooth brush, tooth paste, floss and deodorant. ALL of these items were donated by the Norfolk NobleWomen chapter ladies, who came together to obtain 30 of each item. Thank you for all who donated their time, effort and energy into making this happen. We look forward to making this an annual event and hope to double the number of “Care Kits” next time.
The evening ended with our semi-famous and much anticipated wine raffle. Thank you ladies for another great meeting!
SUMMER FUN!
Virginia Beach, Virginia
The Virginia Beach NobleWomen, led by Samantha Savage, are very excited to see the dots connect for three very different, but all very awesome, summer camps for some amazing local children. The plans for the swimming and surfing camps are coming together nicely as the local community pulls together and joins us in making these dreams a reality. In addition to fund raising for the summer camp opportunities with the YMCA, (4 out of 10 sponsorships raised already! We need your help in raising the remaining 6 sponsorships), we continue to work out the details and put the finishing touches on the swimming and surfing lessons. Nobleteers are needed to make these fun-filled camps a success.

THE FIRST OF MANY
February 2010, Norfolk, Virginia
The Norfolk NobleWomen held their
kickoff meeting on February 9th
at the Painted Lady in Ghent. The
group received an overwhelming
response as 25 women were in
attendance. The room was packed
as chapter leader Jennifer White
presented a PowerPoint presentation
to help explain the roots of the
organization. "Before I can tell you
about the NobleWomen, I have to
first tell you about the Noblemen"
she said, explaining how and why
the menâs organization was founded
15 years ago by Al Midget. "We have
to understand where we come
from so that we know where weâre
headed," a point that she made very
clear as she displayed pictures of
the children who helped inspire the
foundation of the Noblemen and
NobleWomen. The meeting was not
only an informative session but also
the means to discuss the 5K race
that is planned for the late summer
in downtown Norfolk. Among the
logistical and other planning details,
the Norfolk chapter is currently
looking for a race "poster child," a
local child in need to be a beneficiary
of the race proceeds. If you have
a special child in mind, please
contact Jennifer White. The meeting
concluded with a brief appearance
and speech from Al Midget followed
by the wine raffle â the beginning of
a monthly meeting tradition. Overall,
the meeting was well received by all
in attendance and we look forward
to many more Norfolk chapter
meetings.
